Our first sing-along in November 2024 was a huge success--providing solace and community-building in these dark times.
We channel the spirits of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and (early '60s) Bob Dylan as we belt out standards like "Turn Turn Turn," "This Land is Your Land" and "Blowing in the Wind." We also engage the music of the Civil Rights and anti-war movements of the 1950s and '60s as well as songs of struggle from decades past.
Lyrics and chord charts and a music-video playlist are provided. No musical ability required! If you've got acoustic instruments, bring 'em!
Free and open to the public. The DCBC serves food as well as both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Bring the kids and make an evening of it!
Come raise your spirits by singing for social justice... and The Big Blue Marble we call home! La tierra! पृथ्वी! Gaia! La Terre! 地球!Die Erde! الارض! Orbis terrae! Земля! Ziemia! כדור הארץ! Papatūānuku!
The first Earth Day was held April 22, 1970. The 2025 theme is "Our power, our planet"—"inviting everyone around the globe to unite behind renewable energy, and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030" (earthday.org).
The Sing-Along will honor the work of ecologists worldwide on April 22, 2025. As always, we'll be singing songs to bring solace and to encourage community building, but we'll also highlight songs in honor of Mother Earth. You can expect to hear /sing Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" ("They paved paradise and put up a parking lot"), Bob Dylan's "Let Me Die in my Footsteps," and John Prine's "Paradise", among others.
